Cookies for Japan

Dear families and friends. My kids have been asking a lot about Japan lately and have been really cute about praying for the people there before they go to bed at night, so we have decided (after hearing about another family with small children in our neighborhood working together to help) to have tonight’s Family Night theme and lesson be about serving others . When talking about what we can do to help we decided that the best thing for our family would be to earn money and have the kids give that money to our churches humanitarian aid fund when they go to church on Sunday. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland told reporters in a news conference that the Church has committed substantial financial aid to Japan. Emergency supplies are being purchased in Japan or nearby countries as necessary to reduce response time and help local economies that have suffered during the crisis.
When the kids were asked what they thought they could do to earn money the most popular response was “we could make cookies for people and they could buy them from us”. (My girls LOVE baking. They feel really big measuring everything out and I love all of the conversation that comes from being in the kitchen with my girls) So this is what we came up with:

We are going to take orders this week until Thursday night for cookies: You can order chocolate chip, snicker doodles, or chocolate crinkles. They will come in little bags with 6 cookies in them and with be $3.00 a bag.

Since we are sending this out mostly to family members who live in Idaho we decided that if you still want to help them earn some money and serve you could go ahead and order the cookies but instead of having them shipped to you, the girls could take your cookies and give them to the families that are staying at our local Ronald McDonald house…Its double the service.

On Friday after Addy gets home from school we will all sit down and make our shopping list and go shopping for our ingredients. Then Friday night and Saturday we will bake away.

If you live in Lexington your cookies will be ready for pick up by 5:00 pm on Saturday.

As far as money goes, you can pay in whatever way works for you. You can send cash, or checks in the mail, pay when you pick up your cookies, or use credit card or PayPal through my blog. (kiddiekupcakes.blogspot.com). To order the cookies you can simply reply to this email with what you are wanting, or you can go to the blog and click on the purchase cookies button.

Then Sunday morning the girls can turn in all of the money that they have made. All of the money that we get will go towards to the Humanitarian Aid Fund.

Thank you sooooo much for helping my girls learn about service. They are very excited about this!
