The Mini Pink Zebra

So this cake has a funny little story! I decided that since I was at the chubby stage of pregnancy and could not find a purple dress to wear to my sisters wedding to save my life that I was going to make a skirt, but I only had one day that I had enough time to work on it since I had a huge list already of things to do before we flew out. I already had the fabric and had it all cut out and ready to go but I needed a wide piece of black elastic. So I loaded up my two little ones and went to Joannes and got my piece of elastic and was hoping to hurry out of there and get home to make my skirt, put kids down for naps, and maybe even cross something else off of my huge list before Addy got off from bus and the evening chaos of homework, dinner, bedtime began. But as I was checking out I think it came to $3.20 I tried to pay with my credit card, and then my debit card, and then was told that I would have to pay in cash because they were having computer problems and their card readers weren't working BUT they were going to reboot them so I could wait until they did that. It was $3 for heaven sakes and I had NO cash...Addy had wanted to have a hot lunch that day at school so I sent my only $5 bill that was in my purse with her that morning. But I wasn't going to just leave and come back another time because I didn't have more time. So I moved out of the way so the next customers could try to pay and I was going to wait for the reader to hopefully start working. The customers behind me were three friends that had come into Lexington to run some errands and then go out to lunch and they were having a "It really doesn't work..even debit cards?" "I will pay for this with my cash and then you can buy my lunch" conversation. And as they finished paying one of the WONDERFUL ladies came over and gave me $3.20 and said that they all have kids and they didn't want me to have to wait there with them forever. I could have hugged her! I paid (feeling blessed and a little guilty) And then ran to my car to make sure there was no cash in there and as I already knew...there wasn't but I could see these girls getting into their vehicle close by so I hurriedly wrote my blog address down and ran over and told them that I didn't have cash to give them but I would love to give them a deal on a cake or some cupcakes sometime and THANK YOU sooo much!! As I walked back to my car one of them came over and said that she was looking for someone to make a cake for her daughter. Once they were home she had her daughter look at the blog and she loved the zebra cake but only needed a small cake, so we did a mini version of the pink zebra:) I was so happy to make this cake!
I can't tell you how happy I was to meet these three girls or how nice it is to live in a place where people are just so nice! I love Kentucky! And for all of you that live here in Kentucky one of these three ladies has a corn maze from Sept-Oct. so this fall you should check it out the web address is devinescornmaze.com.
And here are the super nice things she had to say about the cake:
"The cake made it through all that and was absolutely delicious!!!  I believe it was the best chocolate fudge cake I have ever eaten!!!  The girls had cake for breakfast on Saturday.  They all loved it!!  So thank you so much for the cake I really appreciate it!!  "
